Molyneux Couture Suit
Two different
fabrics are used in this striking two piece Couture suit from
Molyneux, Paris. The style of the suit is from the 1960's, but
the quality of workmanship is timeless.
Horizontally
striped wool is accented by round green buttons and a
topstitched detail that appears at the neckline, cuffs, hem and
darts of the jacket, as well as the small decorative detail in
the back. The jacket is lined in golden yellow silk taffeta. The
hemline is weighted to insure the proper appearance, and almost
all of the stitching is done by hand.
The skirt is a
solid green wool. It has no waistband for a sleeker fit, there
is a center back metal zipper and the matching green silk lining
is hand stitched. The pleats are most unusual, the fabric is
narrow and flat at the waistline above the ever widening box
pleats. These pleats are created without a seam, not a single
stitch is used. The fabric is cut and the pleats are pressed
into place. This is an amazing feat of construction found only
in couture clothing.
Both the jacket
and the skirt are in excellent condition.
