Guy Laroche Couture Coat
Guy Laroche
apprenticed for Jean Desses and his success there encouraged him
to open his own Couture House in 1957. His early work was
influenced by the architectural style of Cristobal Balenciaga.
This clean
lined, modern silk coat is so sheer and light that you barely
know that you have it on. It reminds me of the sheer coats
Fortuny designed to be worn over his Delphos dress. It would
look perfect over an evening gown, but it could just as easily
be worn with a cashmere sweater and trousers. It would be the
perfect lightweight coat for traveling.
The coat is
collarless, without buttons or snaps. It is cut from two large
pieces of fabric and there are gussets under the arms for ease
of movement. All of the edges are trimmed with a bias tape made
from the same sheer fabric.
It is in
pristine condition, it is possible that it was never worn. The
Guy Laroche label is in the neckline, and the white tape label
with the couture number is sewn underneath.
