In Brenda Cullertons' book Geoffrey Beene there are 120 photographs of his designs personally chosen by Mr. Beene. In this selection there are several variations of this dress, spanning many decades of his career.  Like Chanel, he believed that good design lasts, and does not have to be changed for every new season.

The clean modern lines of this short evening dress are signature Geoffrey Beene. The dress is very sexy and very bare, the front has a plunging neckline, and the back of the dress is barely there at all. Two narrow black straps support the front and criss-cross in back above the very low cut back of the dress. The low cut bust line is solidly covered with tiny black and teal blue sequins, and it is lined in black silk satin. There are black tulle panels on each side of the dress lined in flesh colored silk chiffon. These panels are covered with irregularly shaped spots of teal blue and black sequins. The balance of the dress is black silk.

There is a center back zipper and the straps fasten with hooks and eyes. The dress was retailed by Neiman Marcus, it is marked a size 8, and it also bears the Geoffrey Beene label.  It is in pristine condition.
