Vivienne Westwood
Suit
Fashion is
very important. It is life-changing and, like everything
that gives pleasure it is worth doing well. Dame Vivienne
Westwood
Three time
winner of the British Designer of the Year award, Vivienne
Westwood was also honored with a retrospective of her work
at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2004.
She is
credited with bringing Punk and New Wave fashion into the
mainstream of society from her shop on Kings Rd. In London.
This suit is from her Red Label line founded in 1994, and
exhibited in Paris until this year when she returns to
London for her fashion show in February. The choice of
fabrics for this suit are very traditional, incredibly soft
black wool and deep black velvet for the corset like peplum
and cuffs. The traditional lapels are set off by deep folds
of fabric starting at the shoulder seam and terminating at
the peplum. This eliminates the need for darts at the
bust. There are two pockets in the peplum and the fitted
jacket closes with four oval buttons stamped with the
Westwood logo. The lining in the jacket, a beige silk, also
bears this logo.
The
construction of the skirt is just amazing. A black wool
mini skirt, it has a concealed zipper at the left side of
the center front. Deep gathers fall away from this seam
towards the right hip. The hemline also falls in a diagonal
towards the right, gaining several inches in length, until
it reaches a point and begins to angle upwards at the left
front. This longer section wraps over and is held in place
by a large snap at the waistline. The skirt is also lined
in cream silk with the Westwood logo.
Both pieces
of this very dramatic and sexy suit are in pristine
condition. It is marked a size 42, but please check the
measurements to insure a proper fit.
