Fabiani Silk Ottoman
Coat
Alberto Fabiani was the head of one of the top Italian Couture
Houses in the mid Twentieth Century. He was known for his clean
lines, quality tailoring and timeless classicism. Writing in
The New York Times in 1961 Gloria Emerson referred to his
designs as "a quiet marvel of architecture".
This elegant
silk ottoman coat from the 1960's embodies all of these
features. It is from his Couture line and is entirely hand
finished. The style is simple and elegant, a round collar above
eight silk cord buttons, with two fabric covered snaps to keep
the skirt closed. The long sleeves are accented by six smaller
silk cord buttons. In the true style of the Couture these all
have functioning buttonholes. There are two pockets concealed
in the seams of the coat and it is fully lined in matching silk
taffeta.
This chic
Couture coat from Fabiani, Roma is in excellent wearable
condition. For another example of his work in connection with
his wife the Italian designer Simonetta, see item number CD8-051
