Mila Schon Evening Dress
Mila Schon acquired
her love of couture the old fashioned way. She was a customer of
Dior and Balenciaga before opening her design house in 1958.
Although she is
not as well known as her contemporaries, she is a highly
respected name in Italian fashion, noted for her sophisticated
style and precise tailoring.
Designed along
classical lines her clothes tend to be stark and severely
tailored.
This modern design
from the 1960's embodies all of those qualities. The clean lines
and simple use of a contrasting color for ornamentation work
together to create a striking evening dress. The sleeveless
black silk dress has a low neckline bordered by a wide band of
cream silk. This silk band is used to define the dropped waist
and accentuate the deep slit on the left side, as well as a
border at the hem line.
Chic, elegant
and very modern, this dress is a museum de-accession. The
numbered label is adjacent to the Mila Schon label.
There is a
metal center back zipper and the skirt portion of the dress is
fully lined in black silk. This sophisticated dress is in
excellent condition.
