French Cocktail Dress
Luxurious fabrics
and exquisite construction are the hallmarks of clothing made in
France. This 1950's taffeta evening gown was commissioned by
the wife of an American entrepreneur living in Paris in the
1950's.
The chic black
taffeta dress has a fitted and boned bodice with a slightly
lowered waistline. The top is embellished with pale blue silk
organza, overlaid with sumptuous black French lace, at the
neckline and the off the shoulder cap sleeves. The small red
ribbon above the left breast was used to hold a medal bestowed
on the owner of this lovely dress. There is a metal zipper and
two fabric covered buttons and loops at the center back.
The skirt is
gathered into gentle folds at the waistline and embellished with
dramatic arcs of pale blue organza and lace above a wide band of
organza at the hemline. It is lined with organza and there is a
pale blue tulle petticoat for added body and fullness.
This elegant
and well made dinner dress is a nice wearable size, and it is in
excellent condition.
