Irene Brown Cashmere Sweater

Irene Brown worked in the style of Helen Bond Carruthers. She took this glamorous cashmere sweater and hemmed it, turned up the cuffs, added black velvet buttons and then appliquéd colorful Chinese silk hand embroidery.

The floral embroidery was taken from a 19th century shawl and hand appliquéd onto the sweater to create a striking design. The flowers cascade over the right shoulder and are in full bloom on the back of the sweater. Each cuff is appliquéd with a flower as well. This stunning sweater from the 1950's is in excellent condition.
