Oscar de la
Renta Evening Dress
Oscar
de la Renta has a very interesting resume, having
worked for Balenciaga's Eisa branch in Spain,
Castillo at Lanvin in Paris, and Elizabeth Arden in
New York as the successor to Count Sarmi.
In
1965 he went to work for Jane Derby and he took over
the company when she died, changing it to his name.
This design from de la Renta is a favorite of
mine. I love the juxtaposition of cashmere, chiffon
and jewels. The boned bodice has a wide off the
shoulder neckline and three quarter length sleeves.
It is made from the softest cashmere and is fully
lined in black satin. The plunging neckline is
elaborately decorated with crystal bugle beads and
prong set rhinestones in the style of an
elaborate necklace. A wide satin ribbon encircles
the waistline. The skirt is ballerina length, and it
is slightly longer in back for extra drama. It is
lined with black satin and there is a horsehair hem
for added fullness.
This elegantly casual dress is in pristine
condition.
