Striking Beaded Satin
Flapper Dress
Exquisite and
elaborate beadwork combined with a gorgeous colorful satin make
this dress a standout in any crowd. It is a mirror into the
elegance and affluence of 1920's high society.
A wide border
of beadwork encircles the neckline, cascades down the front of
the dress and around the entire hemline. Large and exquisite
beaded motifs cover the front and back of the dress. Bugle
beads, caviar beads, pearls, "emeralds" and "diamonds" are used
in the striking beadwork patterns. The pale aqua green satin is
the perfect backdrop for the glittering ornamentation.
Sadly the slip
is no longer with the dress, surely it would have told us that
this gorgeous dress was made in France.
The condition
of the dress is near mint. The beadwork appears to be intact,
however while in storage at an apartment building on the Upper
East Side of Manhattan the dress was folded incorrectly. The
right sides of the fabric were folded together. allowing some of
the beads to make faint marks on the satin. These marks are
very light, almost unnoticeable, but I have included a photo to
show an area near the left shoulder. This in no way detracts
from the beauty of the dress or the ability to wear the garment.
