White High Collared
Dress
Beautiful
white batiste, lavishly embellished with lace, embroidery
and ruffles, it certainly doesn't get much better than this
feminine dress, circa 1900.
High
collared with bands of lace and embroidery, the bodice is a
gorgeous mix of lace insertion, pin tucking, embroidery and
a wide ruffle at the shoulders. This ruffle is echoed by
the multiple lace ruffles on the embroidered sleeves. The
waistline is a wide band of lace and batiste. Narrow over
the hips, the skirt is also generously covered with pin
tucks, lace insertion and embroidery. There is a double
flounce of embroidered batiste cascading to a slight train
at the back of the dress.
The dress
closes with dainty pearl buttons and loops from the high
neckline to the waist, above a series of covered and
concealed buttons in the skirt.
There is a
small period repair at the center of the high collar,
probably the result of a pin worn at the throat. This is
the only condition issue, and it is very minor. The rest of
the dress is in excellent condition.
