Hungarian Hand
Embroidered Coat
Beautifully
executed hand embroidery is the focus of this stunning coat
that was Made in Hungary in the 1920's. The rich floral
embroidery covers every inch of this vintage long linen coat
and matching belt.
The natural
linen coat is expertly embroidered with flowers and leaves
of varying sizes in both silk floss and linen thread. A
riot of autumnal colors is worked in large floral bouquets
on the sleeves, coat front, shoulders and hip line of the
striking coat. This is set against the "background"
embroidery worked in shades of beige. The collar and bottom
half of the coat are embroidered in tonal shades of beige.
The
handwork is lavish and luxurious, a testament to the skill
of the needle artist who embellished this garment. The coat
is unlined and the embroidery is almost as beautiful on the
inside, as shown in the last photo. The coat is made from
one piece of embroidered cloth and the sleeves are set into
this by hand. A beige embroidered collar and multicolor
lapels are the only design elements of the garment. There
is a matching beige embroidered belt with a button and snap
closure. The long coat has a slight cocoon shape, tapering
towards the hemline. All of the edges of this lovely
vintage garment are hand finished with chain stitch
embroidery.
For the
sake of accuracy, and the age of the garment, I am going to
say that there are a few loose threads. The coat is in
excellent, wearable condition, sturdy and strong, and it
really is a piece of wearable art. The full cut of the coat
makes this "one size fits most" but please check the
measurements.
