Breathtaking
hand embroidery is surrounded by generous amounts of filet
lace on this handkerchief linen dress, circa 1915.
The simple cut
of the dress is perfect to display the elegant hand
embroidery. A round collarless neckline is edged in rose
patterned filet lace, which matches the inserts of lace on
the bodice. A large panel of embroidery with flowers worked
in satin stitch and French knots is edged in lace. The elbow
length sleeves are embellished with more lace and
embroidery. The skirt has two panels that are fully
edged and hemmed in wide bands of lace, and profusely hand
embroidered with a garden of flowers.
The dress
opens at the center back with a row of mother of pearl
buttons from the neck to the waist, and it snaps across the
waist and down the left side. The petersham has been
replaced with a new white grosgrain ribbon. There is an
attached petticoat with a scalloped hem.
This
amazing hand embroidered dress is in impeccable condition.
